Waiting for Brush Collection in Colbert County

This impacts the East end of the county the most.

All of Colbert County is serviced by 3 brush trucks, (all county maintained roads). We do not work on a schedule because that would be impossible since from one day to the next the amount of rubbish on the roadside changes. We have 3 separate routes that we follow. Because of the quarantine and everyone home, cleaning out and remodeling we are way behind. My route is from Elledge Lane to Town Creek and from Hwy 20 to the Tennessee River. I normally can keep it at a 3-4 week turn around, but right now I am at almost 6 weeks.

As of Monday, May 29, the landfill in Tuscumbia is closed and now we have to travel to Barton to dump what we pick up off the roadside. Now what would have taken me 30-45 minutes to dump and get back to the route is taking 1.5 to 2 hours. So my normal day of 3-4 loads ranging from 4-15 tons each will be cut to at least 2 loads.

Please be patient, we are doing the best we can. If you call your commissioner to complain and he calls and pulls me off my route to come to your home and do a pickup, it will push me farther and farther behind. If you do not want to wait you are welcome to take your rubbish to the landfill in Barton. The cost to dump is 19.00 per ton for EVERYONE.

And please remember that everyone wants their homes and yards to look nice for holidays and special occasions, but that is not a reason for us to break route to pick up your stuff and push someone else farther behind. If you have something special coming up and things you need to get rid of please take them to the landfill.
