Pollinator Habitat Over-Improved in Russellville?

If we told you the state department of transportation has a policy on pollinator habitat, at best you might nod and mumble something like "oh, that's nice." If you're like us at PNS, you have never heard of pollinator habitat in connection with the state (or any other) highway system. What is it?

According to one report, it's: INTEGRATED ROADSIDE VEGETATION MANAGEMENT (IRVM) TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE POLLINATOR HABITAT. In short, it means the state is mowing medians and rights-of-way far less than it used to in order to help bees survive.

While this is definitely a boon to the bees, some motorists are not that impressed by the unintended result - they can't see oncoming traffic when they need to. This has been reported to us by drivers in Franklin County. Apparently, Franklin takes pollinator habitat very seriously.

Contacting the state office may be of some help in reporting the situation. Good luck!
