J. Gilbert Parrish Sr. Obituary


WATERLOO — Dr. J. Gilbert Parrish, Sr., 83, was called to Heaven on January 20th. He is survived by his sweetheart of 65 years, Jannis Parrish; daughter, Kathie Baldridge of Lakeland, Tennessee; daughter, Marsha (Bart) Hove of Longboat Key, Florida; son, Gil Parrish, Jr. (Robin) of Savannah, Tennessee; son, David Randall (Lynn) Parrish of Collierville, Tennessee; son, Dr. Mike (Becky) Parrish of Eads, Tennessee; brother, Ted (Carolyn) Parrish of Memphis; sister, Lois Ann (Jim) Whittington of Bartlett; 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lois Parrish of Memphis; daughter, Debbie (Lee) Adcox; son-in-law, Bobby Baldridge; and grandchildren, Stephanie Boyd and John Parrish, III.

Dr. Parrish attended Messick High School and distinguished himself as an all-Memphis football standout. He graduated from Memphis State University and the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. A deacon and 50-year member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, Dr. Parrish practiced dentistry in the Raleigh area of Memphis from 1962-1994 before retiring to Waterloo. There the Parrishes joined Bruton Branch Baptist Church and volunteered with the Waterloo Library, making many friends on their daily walks.

A legendary pilot, boater, and outdoorsman, Doc will best be remembered as a respected mentor and consistent example. A consummate gentleman, he demonstrated his love through service and encouragement to others.

The family requests that donations be made to Waypoint Baptist Church, 5586 Stage Road, Bartlett, TN 38134.

Graveside service will be today, January 24th, 12:30 p.m. at Richardson Cemetery, Waterloo. Memorial service on Friday, January 25th at 2 p.m., Crossroads Baptist Church, Cordova, Tennessee. Visitation from noon until service time.
