GM to Lay Off 500 Employees in Spring Hill
According to a union representative, General Motors in Spring Hill is about to conduct a massive lay-off. The GM plant, officially called Spring Hill Manufacturing, employs over 3K workers in the assembly of Cadillac vehicles and is the major economic entity for that area of the state.
The lay-off is reported to affect the third shift only. It is of undetermined duration. According to economic pundits, General Motors had been experiencing an uptick in its Cadillac sales after a number of declining years with several new models being introduced. Now the pandemic has halted this upward trend, and GM's plans for this brand are in limbo.
