Florence GNC Escapes the Axe
The General Nutrition Company, aka GNC, currently owns around 7.5K stores; it's also currently filing for bankruptcy. In order to survive, GNC has a three-fold plan: Selling outright, closing 248 outlets immediately, and finally closing 800 to 1,200 more locations before the end of 2020 (depending on finding a buyer).
GNC has been located in the Florence Mall since it opened in 1978. Fans of the vitamin king can rest easy, at least for now. The only Alabama location set for immediate closing is in Oxford.
But contented customers shouldn't rest too easy - the company stated round two of closures could begin within the next few weeks with no buyer in sight. Will another one fall by the wayside at the Florence Mall?
