Alfonso (Pig) Jarmon Wins New Murder Trial
A Florence man whose defense attorney died during closing arguments has been ordered a new trial. Alfonso Ramon Johnson, known as "Pig," was convicted in 2017 of the Felony Murder of Charles Hugh Perkins, a former Florence corrections officer.
Jean Darby, who represented the now 34 year old Jarmon, collapsed during her closing arguments and was replaced by order of Circuit Court Judge Gil Self. Miss Darby passed away two days later in hospital.
The Lauderdale County District Attorney's office has stated it will attempt to have the appeal decision overturned. Jarmon is currently serving a life sentence in the Alabama Prison System.
